Sometimes they have no toys.<\/p>\n

Sometimes no shoes.<\/p>\n

Sometimes not even food for the next day.<\/p>\n

But on the outskirts of Conakry there is a small place where a bit of light appears in a child\u2019s life.<\/p>\n

This place is the Dimakan\u00e8 orphanage.<\/p>\n

In the local dialects, this word means:<\/p>\n

\u201cthe woman who shares her breast milk\u201d<\/b>\u00a0\u2013<\/p>\n

a woman who feeds not only her own baby,<\/p>\n

but any little one who comes to her door hungry.<\/p>\n

It is not just a name.<\/p>\n

It is a character.<\/b><\/p>\n

It is a meaning.<\/b><\/p>\n

It is Aminata.<\/b><\/p>\n

One day someone knocked on her door with a baby whose mother could not breastfeed.<\/p>\n

Aminata took the child into her arms.<\/p>\n

A week later, a second baby came.<\/p>\n

Then a third.<\/p>\n

She never planned to create an orphanage \u2013 she simply could not say \u201cno\u201d to a child crying from hunger.<\/p>\n

That is how Dimakan\u00e8 began \u2013 a home born from simple human warmth.<\/p>\n

I have seen all of this. I have been there \u2013 in person 🌍\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

My name is Ksenia Johnsen.<\/p>\n

I heard about Dimakan\u00e8 and I could not just scroll past.<\/p>\n

So I went to Guinea at my own expense \u2013 no grant, no foundation, no team \u2013<\/p>\n

simply because I couldn\u2019t stay aside knowing that they were waiting there.<\/p>\n

I sat on the floor next to the children.<\/p>\n

I held their hands.<\/p>\n

I heard their laughter and saw how a tiny bit of joy can change an entire day.<\/p>\n

I stood on the land where one day a new home will be built.<\/p>\n

And now I know for sure:<\/p>\n

every donation is not a number on the screen, but real food, clothes, notebooks, medicines.<\/p>\n

These are children\u2019s bellies that will not be empty today.<\/p>\n

These are small people who learn, laugh and grow.<\/p>\n

This help does not get lost somewhere on the way.<\/p>\n

It arrives directly into the hands and lives of these children.<\/p>\n
