Dimakanè — a home where love becomes bread, milk and hope

with No Comments

In Guinea, children grow up in a place where very few things can be called “taken for granted”.

Sometimes they have no toys.

Sometimes no shoes.

Sometimes not even food for the next day.

But on the outskirts of Conakry there is a small place where a bit of light appears in a child’s life.

This place is the Dimakanè orphanage.

In the local dialects, this word means:

“the woman who shares her breast milk” –

a woman who feeds not only her own baby,

but any little one who comes to her door hungry.

It is not just a name.

It is a character.

It is a meaning.

It is Aminata.

One day someone knocked on her door with a baby whose mother could not breastfeed.

Aminata took the child into her arms.

A week later, a second baby came.

Then a third.

She never planned to create an orphanage – she simply could not say “no” to a child crying from hunger.

That is how Dimakanè began – a home born from simple human warmth.

I have seen all of this. I have been there – in person 🌍

My name is Ksenia Johnsen.

I heard about Dimakanè and I could not just scroll past.

So I went to Guinea at my own expense – no grant, no foundation, no team –

simply because I couldn’t stay aside knowing that they were waiting there.

I sat on the floor next to the children.

I held their hands.

I heard their laughter and saw how a tiny bit of joy can change an entire day.

I stood on the land where one day a new home will be built.

And now I know for sure:

every donation is not a number on the screen, but real food, clothes, notebooks, medicines.

These are children’s bellies that will not be empty today.

These are small people who learn, laugh and grow.

This help does not get lost somewhere on the way.

It arrives directly into the hands and lives of these children.

🎒 180 € per year gives a child school

15 € per month – and one small person gets a chance for a future.

This includes:

  • school fees
  • notebooks, pens and learning materials
  • school uniform and fabric for it
  • shoes

4 500 € per year – and ALL children in Dimakanè go to school.

Sometimes changing a life costs less than we think.

❤️ A one-time donation – a warm gesture that changes a day

  • 10 € → notebooks, pens, small school items
  • 25 € → several days of food and hygiene
  • 50 € → serious support for school and daily life
  • 75 € → a large part of one child’s yearly support
  • 100 € → help for several children at once

It can be more. It can be less.

The main thing is not to stay indifferent.

💚 Monthly support – this is safety

Not just “a one-time hope”, but a tomorrow that is really there.

  • 15 € / month → one child goes to school for a whole year
  • 30 € / month → two children get their chance
  • 45 € / month → three futures start changing right now

Even 5–10 € per month can be a plate of porridge, soap, exercise books.

It is the quiet certainty: the children will not be left without support.

✨ Dimakanè began with one heart.

Now it can have one more – yours.

One day, Aminata fed a baby who was not her own.

And that baby’s whole world changed.

Today we can do the same – quietly, simply, humanly.
